ARE GREEN TEA AND MATCHA TEA THE SAME?
All tea derives from Camellia sinensis but the way its grown and consumed is much different. Green tea is grown primarily in China, but also Japan, India, Hawaii, and even South Carolina. Where as, quality Matcha is grown in two Japanese prefectures; Kyoto and Aichi. Matcha tea plants are shade grown shielding the plant from direct sunlight. This process creates an overproduction of chlorophyll giving quality matcha it’s vibrant green hue. As well as additional chlorophyll, a unique amino acid is produced called L-theanine which is responsible for much of the added benefits. The leaves are then hand harvested and stone ground to create a fine powder.
WHY MATCHA IS BETTER THAN GREEN TEA
When consuming Matcha you’re consuming the whole leaf, opposed to just water that’s been steeped with green tea. In addition to several compounds and amino acids unique to Matcha, you receive enormously higher levels of antioxidants, up to 10x that of green tea.
Specifically, Matcha contains a form of antioxidant called Catechins and of those 60% are EGCg. EGCg powerfully protects are bodies on the cellar level helping to shield DNA from harmful radiation and chemicals.
